About Julie

Hello, Nice to Meet You!

Hi, I’m Julie, the person behind the blog. As a former middle school principal and an Ennegram 1, I’m prone to offering unsolicited advice.

Prior to writing my dissertation (more on that later), I liked to write. I’ve always been drawn to journaling and capturing my thoughts, experiences, and memories. So, as I searched for a creative outlet, a blog seemed like a natural fit.

I’m glad that you’re here, and to be honest, I’m not yet sure what shape this space will take. I hope to share some tips and tricks that have made my life easier, feedback about the books that I’ve read, and other things along the way.

Fast facts

In my most natural state, I’m curled up on my couch, with my laptop, books, coffee, and knitting, trying (and usually failing) to accomplish way too much during nap time.

I was born and raised in rural southeastern Ohio and lived in Ohio until my early 30s. I left Ohio to move to Michigan in 2016 when my husband did a fellowship at the University of Michigan, and then we moved to Spoakne, Washington in 2017.

I rarely watch TV, but if I am going to watch a show it’s Gilmore Girls. I’ve seen the entire series multiple times, and in my opinion it’s still one of the best shows around.

I read a lot, like 100+ books a year a lot, but I still haven’t read many of the classics. My go to genres are memoir, nonfiction, historical fiction, and I also love a lighthearted romance novel.

I will forever use the Oxford Comma.

There’s so much more to share about my life than I can share on this “About Julie” page, and instead of glossing over the real, raw, painful, and vulnerable stuff to only share curated collection that looks nice on the internet, I’m going to write a (long) blog post to give a more full picture of who I am, and how my life experiences have shaped me into the person that I am today.
